Christmas is recognised as a time for peace and goodwill toward all women and men.
Alas, we know only too well that for many people in society and around the world, peace and goodwill will be in very short supply or completely non-existent.
We also know that while most people are enjoying themselves over the festive period, Superintendents and Chief Superintendents will be providing essential senior operational police leadership round the clock making key decisions and dealing with critical incidents – just like every other day of the year.
That is the conundrum of being a values-driven senior leader in policing: it is both a burden and a privilege.
I genuinely hope that amongst all the demands and challenges over the holiday season, you will be able to find time to relax, time to recharge and time to enjoy being with loved ones.
I hope you get the opportunity to give and receive the peace and goodwill of Christmas, and I hope that continues all the way through 2019.
