At the ASPS financial seminar on Tuesday a number of members raised concerns in respect of the accuracy of figures supplied in their Pension Annual Allowance Statements. I have raised this matter with the SPPA who are very keen to ensure you have all the information you require. I have attached an insert from their response which I trust members find helpful.
“If it’s any reassurance, I don’t believe there is reason at this stage to doubt the accuracy of the figures being produced. Given the administrative requirements I understand it is difficult to include the Pension Input calculations on the document, which may otherwise have aided understanding. However, I fully appreciate the importance of clear and succinct information, particularly in such a complex area, and having now viewed an example of the correspondence that is issued to members I can see why there may be difficulties interpreting the content. The letter does refer members to various HMRC guidance although I note it does not direct members to the appropriate section on the SPPA website which gives useful general information:
I will discuss with colleagues in SPPA Operations and return to you at the earliest opportunity, and of course happy to meet up. In the meantime I’d be grateful if you could continue to direct ASPS members to SPPA where they have any concerns”.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of any further assistance.
